VENKATRAMAN RAMAKRISHNAN – NOBEL PRIZE  AND KNIGHTHOOD

Venkatraman Ramakrishnan

Venkatraman ramankrishnan (Venky) won Nobel prize in 2009 for his work in chemistry on  ribosome, a cellular machine that makes proteins.

 

He was born in born in India in the temple town of Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu in 1952.

He migrated to US for his Ph.D in Physics from Ohio University.

In 2009, Venkatraman ramankrishnan  made all Indians proud by winning noble prize in chemistry. He is only the seventh Indian to win nobel prize.

In recent times, Venkatraman ramankrishnan  is in news for being honoured with a knighthood on 1st January 2012, by royal establishment for services to molecular biology in the New Year honours in the Year Honours List 2012.
